File Servers
There are two file servers available to the department: chemistryfs and chemistryfs2. Chemistryfs2 is for research data and research group Web pages; Chemistryfs is for personal Web pages and other Web sites.
Network accounts allow you to log on to resources that are part of the CHM_DEPT domain. Your network username and password allow you to log on to various machines in the building and to use network resources such as the file server. Please note, the password cannot be changed.
CHM_DEPT Windows computers
On a PC, access chemistryfs or chemistryfs2 using the run command (Windows-key + R) or by going to My Network Places. You will be logged into the fileserver using the password you supplied to log on to the computer.
Macs and non-CHM_DEPT Windows computers
On a Mac, use the Chooser or Connect to Server items to locate and connect to chemistryfs or chemistryfs2. You will be prompted for a name and password.
Mac OS X:
- Select Connect to Server... under the Go menu
- Type "smb://", then the IP address or the name of the fileserver in the address field (e.g., for the chemistry file server, chemistryfs, type smb://chemistryfs)
- Log in to the server using your department username and password.
