This page contains instruction on how to set the Mail.app email client to filter your chemistry department email for spam.
1. From the Mail menu select Preferences
2. Click Rules. Next click Add Rule
3. Type a name for the rule
4. Click From in the popup menu and select Edit Header List...
5. Enter "X-Spam-Score " as the header, click Add Header, then click OK
6. Click From in the popup menu again and now select X-Spam-Score. Next, enter the desired number of asterisks (e.g. *******) in the form next to "Contains"
Please Note: Messages that contain a large number of asterisks in their headers are classified by X-Spam-Score to be spam. The greater the number of asterisks, the more likely the message is spam.
Some messages that are spam may be labeled as non-spam and vice versa. If this happens, the number of asterisks in this section can be increased or decreased based on your preferences.
7. Your email will now be filtered for spam. Junk mail will be placed in the Junk folder.
