Configuring Papercut client for printing to copy center (Mac OS X 10.3 or higher)

Papercut is the name of the printer accounting solution the chemistry department will be using. The accounting is done for the printers in the Copy Center in the chemistry building. In order to print to those printers, you will need

These instructions are for MAC OS X (10.3 and higher) and involves 3 parts.

Download and installing papercut software

  1. Hit apple-k key in finder
  2. Type in smb://printserver.chem.wisc.edu/pcclient/mac
  3. Connect as a guest user
  4. Double click on client-local-install
  5. Select yes when asked to install into the Applications folder
  6. You can log into the papercut client with your email username and password

Configure your machine to start papercut on boot

  1. Open System Preference... from the Apple menu.
  2. Select Accounts.
  3. Select your login account.
  4. Click the Login Items tab.
  5. Click the + button and browse and locate the PCClient application.

Setting up print queues

  1. Go to Apple pull down on top left corner
  2. Choose system preferences
  3. Choose Print & Fax
  4. Click + to add a printer
  5. Select IPP under the protocol dropdwon menu
  6. Type printserver.chem.wisc.edu for Address window.
  7. In Queue window, type in one of the following
    • printers/pc-3700-copy for the HP Color Laserjet 3700 in the copy center (normal paper)
    • printers/pc-3700-copy-trans for the HP Color Laserjet 3700 in the copy center (transparency paper)
    • printers/pc-5550-copy for the HP Color Laserjet 5550 in the copy center (normal paper)
    • printers/pc-5550-copy-11x17 for the HP Color Laserjet 5550 in the copy center (11x17 paper)
    • printers/pc-5550-copy-8x14 for the HP Color Laserjet 5550 in the copy center (8.5x14 paper)
    • printers/pc-p3005-copy for the HP Laserjet P3005 (black and white) in the copy center
  8. Under Name select a name you would like to use to describe this queue
  9. Under Location add in the location of the printer.
  10. Under Print using choose Select a driver to use ... and select the correct model for the printer you are setting up, either HP Color Laserjet 3700 or the HP Color Laserjet 5550
