Configuring pine for LDAP address book lookups

This page contains instructions on how to configure pine to access the Chemistry LDAP server for directory service information (i.e. chemistry email addresses and phone numbers).

Instructions

  1. Start Pine.
  2. In the main menu, select Setup, then Directory.
  3. Add a new directory.
  4. Set ldap-server to: ldap.chem.wisc.edu
  5. Set search-base to: ou=people,ou=core,dc=chem,dc=wisc,dc=edu
  6. Set nickname to: Chem Address Book
  7. Set search-rule to: contains
  8. Choose Exit, then Yes to commit changes.
  9. Exit the setup mode.
When you compose new email, press ^T to add an address book entry. Select "Chem Address Book" and type a search string.
