Configuring Mail.app for LDAP address book lookups

This page contains instructions on how to configure Mail.app to access the Chemistry LDAP server for directory service information (i.e. chemistry email addresses and phone numbers).

Instructions

  1. Open Mail.app.
  2. Go to Mail -> Preferences....
  3. Select Composing.
  4. Check the option Automatically complete addresses.
  5. Click on Configure LDAP....
  6. Click on the + button. A window called Server Info should appear.
  7. Enter the following:
    • Name: Chem LDAP
    • Server: ldap.chem.wisc.edu
    • Search Base: ou=core,dc=chem,dc=wisc,dc=edu
    • Port: 389
      Note: SSL does not need to be checked
  8. Click Save.
  9. Click Done.
  10. Close the Mail Preferences pane by clicking on the red close button in the upper left hand corner.
  11. Mail.app is now configured to use the LDAP server.
