Gradlin

Gradlin is a new computer built by the CCC available for graduate students in chemistry computing courses. Currently, the computer is configured to allow students to access it from both inside the Computer Classroom and from outside the Chemistry Department Network. Graduate students are able to remotely access Gradlin to complete their homework assignments and store their files on the fileserver throughout the semester they are enrolled.

Gradlin is running Gentoo Linux. It has a Pentium 4 Processor 3GHz CPU, 2GB of RAM, and a 250GB hard drive.

Connecting to Gradlin

Please note: all user names and passwords are case sensitive.

SecureCRT

If you don't have SecureCRT for Windows, you can download it here using your UW-Madison NetID and password.

1. Open SecureCRT. Select the icon to "Quick Connect" or go to File then Quick Connect.

2. Make sure SSH2 is selected. For the host name, enter in gradlin.chem.wisc.edu (or the IP address 128.104.71.9). Click Connect.

3. When asked to verify a New Host Key, select Accept Once if using a public computer.

4. Enter in your gradlin user name and click OK. (Note: This is the user name for gradlin, and may not necessarily be the same as your chemistry or UW-Madison login name).

5. When asked to Specify a Public Key File, select No.

6. Enter in your gradlin password and click OK.

PuTTY

If you don't have PuTTY, you can download it for Windows here.

1. Open PuTTY. For the host name, enter in gradlin.chem.wisc.edu (or the IP address128.104.71.9). Click Open.

2. When prompted with the security alert, select No if you are using a public computer.

3. Enter in your gradlin user name. (Note: This is the user name for gradlin, and may not necessarily be the same as your chemistry or UW-Madison login name). Next, enter in your gradlin password and hit enter.

SecureFX
